Soils Laboratory

The Soils Laboratory within the Materials Testing Center is comprised of several areas for processing, specimen preparation, and testing of all types of soils and soil materials such as controlled low-strength materials (CLSMs). The lab includes an area for processing, splitting, and drying soils, and conducting grain size analyses, Atterburg limits, specific gravities, and soil classifications. A separate room contains a suite of GEOTAC testing units for unconfined and confined consolidations, triaxial compressions, direct shear testing, hydraulic conductivity, and other testing configurations. A separated area provides the masses, manual, and mechanical compaction hammers for processing mold-compacted soils for standard and modified Proctor analyses, California Bearing Ratio testing, and other compaction analyses.
